Adaptability Is Strategic Resilience
There has been a great deal of adapting on the fly these days, so I thought I would bring that up as a topic of discussion.
As you know, things don't always go as planned. Quite often, we need to pivot unexpectedly in a new direction, one we totally didn't anticipate.
But adaptation is not failure, nor is it giving up.
Rather, think of it more like a reinvention of yourself and your mission. In The Art of Being Human, I talk about changeability as it relates to your Resilience Index. Some people are more resistant to change than others.
If you can loosen your grip, let go of some resistance to the process and what life has in store for you, then you can more easily adapt to rapid change in your environment.
I've had to adapt after leaving flight school... twice. Creative, on-the-fly reinvention. I have also adapted TRM© to better fit the world's needs. All of this requires emotional adaptation in real time.
Adaptation doesn’t mean changing yourself at the most fundamental level. You aren’t betraying who you are or becoming someone that doesn’t align with you right now. Rather than changing you, you’re changing how you move through the world, how you navigate through problems. You’re changing the map you use, not the land you stand on.
Adapting without betraying yourself is where your power is.
Never allow what comes at you to define you as a person. Never let a setback determine your self worth. Always use what comes as a springboard to make yourself better, stronger, more aware. A powerhouse of moral alignment.
Stop, breathe, smile, and see how you can use a challenge to your benefit. No matter how much it hurts or how hard it is to look at.
There is always a way to win, even if that win is a purely subjective, internal shift. For that to happen, you have to be adaptable.
Adaptability is strategic resilience. It's another one of your superpowers.
