Clear The Dam

Last weekend, I took a course that I've procrastinated on for... you will never guess... 23 years.

Whoa.

It was easy to procrastinate on for a variety of reasons. A refresher on old training, let’s say.

Let me share the process I just went through with you because it's significant for all of us.

I talk about freeing up energy when it gets stuck in certain areas of your life, then being able to reallocate that energy and direct it where you want it to create forward momentum. This is a present moment example of that.

Like many of us, I have been so overwhelmed by my rapidly growing arsenal of photos and videos on my phone. The ones that were never supposed to make their way into iCloud, but one day, up they went on their own and they stayed there holding me ransom to monthly payments I never wanted.

Maybe this wasn't your experience, but I had a heck of a time figuring out how to extract the 20,000 files I had collected without the process eating up a disproportionate amount of time.

So they sat there. For years.

A few weeks ago, I finally discovered a process that took fewer hours and was totally hands-off. That's what I needed.

iCloud is now blissfully empty, and my files are safe offline.

Completing that project of clearing the massive amount of digital clutter freed up so much energy in the form of relief because it had been weighing so heavily on my mind. Suddenly, that course became the next logical thing to get off my plate.

And you know what? Suddenly it looked VERY easy. It wasn't the monster in my mind that it had been.

So I booked the course and started my PAL and RPAL licensing process.

Now that the course is over and I have successfully completed it, I have another burst of energy I can direct toward my next project.

This is how you create momentum.

If you have been procrastinating on something that you really want to get done and put behind you, do it. Tackle it. Get it out of the way and free up the energy you have locked up with it right now so you can create your next thing.

You have two options when it comes to facing things you don't want to do. Imagine there's a beaver dam blocking the flow of your life energy. You can either:

1. Grab a big log: This releases lots of energy but is harder to remove from the dam
2. Start with a twig: Frees less energy, but is far easier to tackle

Both the log and the twig are massively significant. Both are action where you previously had none. Both build momentum in different ways. Either will leave you feeling better off than you were before.

Most of the time, the things we procrastinate on are bigger in our heads than they are in reality, anyway.
