From Fear to Flight: A Lesson in Courage
When I joined flight school, I made the decision to consciously and relentlessly pursue my biggest fear. If you read my book, you already know what that is, how it's already challenged me, and how I overcame the previous one.
When you make a choice like that, to face something or chase growth, life will meet you in that place to give you exactly what you need: opportunities to face what you're choosing to face. Environments, relationships, circumstances will shift to accommodate your new direction of growth. Life will move heaven and earth, so to speak, to allow you the chance to grow.
True to form, life has stepped in. I have just been presented with an opportunity for growth that I can't turn down. Accepting it will  mean facing fear directly and committing myself to stepping through it. For those who don't know, I live in Canada. I've never been to Europe, even though I have family there. In two weeks, that will be checked off my bucket list. I will be visiting multiple countries and this means being strong enough to brave several flights, directly facing my fear, to reach each destination along the way. That means sitting face to face with my Goliath, claustrophobia, for many hours while I dig into how to heal it at its core.
I am a VERY firm believer that if it's in front of you and you have the urge to conquer it, you always have the means. We, as humans, are unstoppable. Yes, this means being creative with your solutions, endlessly patient with yourself and relentlessly willing to feel what's uncomfortable. Whether it's fear or vulnerable emotions, your greatest growth comes at the edge of what you think you cannot do.
As I move forward through my fears, I urge you to do the same. It's always been my goal to lead by example. It doesn't have to be fear you conquer, but limiting beliefs of any sort that come between you and what you want out of this life. It can be grand scale, or small. It can be public or invisible to everyone else. All that matters is that YOU know you did it.
The transformation is inside you.
Look at what you fear, or what limits you, and find one small step you can take towards that obstacle. What does that step look like? Start moving forward and see how it feels. You control your destiny because, regardless of the circumstances, you control your inner growth and process. I'm willing to bet that one step feels more empowering than it does scary, and the next starts to feel intoxicating enough to make pushing your boundaries a beautiful, expansive process of release.
Human beings are not meant to live in the box the world has told us to create for ourselves. We're meant to be so, so much more than that.
Stepping into your power starts with one small step into the unknown. That happens with one decision.
What are you afraid of that's holding you back right now?
