A Leap of Faith

Waterfall plunging into a deep forested canyon beneath a cloudy sky.

There will come a time when you have to jump a gap.

A chasm between who you are now, and who you’re becoming. A jump so large you can’t say for sure you’ll land on the other side, or if it’s going to be as soft a landing as you wanted when you get there.

But you have to try.

How do you navigate giant leaps of faith?

When the fire in your belly tells you to go for it, to see what happens.

Because maybe... just maybe... you will win.

Here are some hard and fast rules I follow when I'm faced with a huge, life-altering opportunity to jump toward.

FOLLOW YOUR GUT… ABOVE ALL ELSE

Your gut, your true instinct, will never steer you wrong. Ever. The more adept you become at reading and understanding yourself and the feedback you get from your body and emotions, the more unstoppable you will become. If you have this nagging feeling that won't let you turn away from an opportunity or challenge entirely, then there's something there for you.

Something to chase after.

The last thing you want hanging over you is a 'what if I had gone for it?'. If it's not for you, your gut feelings will reflect that. If it is, you won't be able to put it down.

CHASE THIS FEELING

It's the intoxicating fire of fear blended with excitement that sits in your belly. It's the energy of pure potential that you get when you stand at the edge of a blank canvas. If you feel this excited feeling of nerves, it's a green light. It's important you chase it. Fear and excitement are very similar, and you can catalyze one into the other by changing your thoughts. When they blend together, it means something very specific: You're pushing your comfort zone in pursuit of something great.

TRUST YOURSELF

This goes hand in hand with following your gut. Trust yourself. Trust your decision making, your ability to feel and interpret those feelings, and your strength. Trust yourself enough to let go of any doubt instead of lingering there. Ultimately, trust that you can build that self-trust if you don't feel you have that superpower yet, and do so by staying true to your integrity. The more you follow through on your word and stay honest with yourself about what's in your heart, the more you understand beyond a doubt how to follow your own leadership.

UNDERSTAND THE OUTCOME

The process will always take you where you need to be, whether that's to success as you intended it to look, or lessons learned from things going a bit sideways. As long as you follow your fire, you're going to get exactly what you need along the way. The outcome may not be what you were excited to receive, it may even look like failure. But there is no failure where there is growth and a mind willing to grow enough to accept it. Always look for the gold and be grateful for the entire journey, outcome included. You're going to land exactly where you're meant to.

CELEBRATE THE PROCESS

Celebrate everything along the way. Every single win, no matter how small, however invisible those wins are to other people. This isn't their journey, it's yours. You don't have to justify any part of it to anyone. If you notice a shift inside yourself––a release of heavy energy, a changing of old patterns, the relief of forgiveness––celebrate it.

It's a huge milestone.

Celebrate the massive wins, but don't underestimate the power of the smallest step forward. Just because it's microscopic doesn't devalue its life-changing nature. When you stand in gratitude for your situation and growth, life responds to that energy. This is the beautiful dance of life.

Sometimes it takes years to slay a beast and life is only looking to make sure you have what it takes to look it in the eye.

It's time to jump.

If you're standing at the edge of your own leap, build the self-trust to navigate it with The Art of Being Human.
