On Courage
No life is free of difficult decisions.
The tough conversations. Holding back reactions. The difficult goodbyes. Walking through the door and having everything come to the surface. Allowing it all to hurt, like a hard breakup. Giving something the time and space it needs to leave your experience.
Healing and letting go is a heartbreaking process.
There is beauty in that raw place.
Carry your emotions like a backpack, not a body part. You can put down what’s heavy once it has served its purpose. Emotions are not identity. That’s an important distinction when you’re sitting in the middle of emotional chaos.
Process what you’re feeling in the present moment, then move your thinking forward. Ask yourself: Where do I want this to take me? Use all that emotion as fuel.
Sometimes that means sitting with what happened. Other times, it means deciding what happens next.
Life comes with difficult, foundational, life-changing decisions. It’s unavoidable. We need courage to make those calls. Quite often, doing the right thing is the hardest choice, even when it’s the most logical.
And sometimes the hardest part comes after the decision has been made.
Life has a way of working out. We can have the best plans laid out in front of us, and all of a sudden get knocked sideways. It doesn’t mean you’re in the wrong. Sometimes life simply needs you somewhere else.
Still, doubt can set in. Intense emotions conquer the quiet voice in your head that says you're doing the right thing. Confidence gets replaced with, "Did I just irreversibly change the trajectory of my life for the worse?"
Closing a door behind you can be one of the hardest decisions you make.
It's unsettling, that cold and suddenly unfamiliar feeling that often follows big decisions and change.
And you know what?
There's nothing wrong with that. This is the expansion process. This space gives you an opportunity to clarify what you want, check in with yourself, and process emotions that otherwise would have been easier to ignore.
The most challenging part is to remain quiet enough inside that discomfort to redefine yourself.
There's a lot of courage in walking away from something not meant for you, changing something that's been integral to your life, or choosing peace over pride. In this hustle-driven world we live in, stopping is not something that's celebrated. That, however, can sometimes be the right decision, even when it's the hardest one to make.
Remember to be present with that space that surrounds your decisions. Discomfort isn't bad. On the contrary, complete long-term comfort signals zero growth.
No matter what you're facing, or deciding your way through, emotional presence will get you the growth and expansion you need as long as you stay with it. Let it be and let it breathe.
Your biggest lessons lie in that uncomfortable space.
